shutdown -h now don't works from graphics

opensuse 12.1 with kde 4.9,
If I click on the shutdown icon, a window appear, I click on the “turn off computer” red icon, but computer screen become black, the moure arrow remain fixed there, and the pc doesn’t shut down.
I checked in >system settings>login screen>shutdown>= “/sbin/shutdown -h -P now”, I tried also “/sbin/shutdown -h now” and in both cases it doesn’t works.
If I do alt-ctrl-F2 to access in a console, login as root, and perform /sbin/shutdown -h now it works perfectly.

what can I do to perform a shutdown in the graphical way??

Try using /bin/systemctl poweroff and /bin/systemctl reboot

It is the same, from alt-ctrl-F2 console /bin/systemctl poweroff and /bin/systemctl reboot works, graphically, clicking on the “turn
off computer” red icon don’t works.

+1 Here i havent found a solution yet…it seems that if we have many repositories, suse makes a mess and other people have faced similar problem…If i want to shutdown i have to go to terminal → su → “/sbin/shutdown -h -P now” which is ver anoying… Hope anyone could solve this.

If you are mixing many repos then you have something with mixed version. Give list of repos

zypper lr -U

In YaST2- /etc/sysconfig Editor under

–Desktop --Display manager

DISPLAYMANAGER_SHUTDOWN

have you checked this parameter is set to

all

?

If set to anything else, one cmd to powering off is,

kdesu -c ‘halt -hip’

but then root password will be asked for.
