Hello,
I have seen some configurations of KDE where the icons on the desktop have the handles that pop up when you hover over them. The latest distributions don’t seem to do that by default. Is there a configuration option somewhere that turns this off and on? I haven’t been able to find it in the configuration anywhere, and I’ve searched the docs and google, but no hits.
Thanks
You forgot to mention the version of KDE and openSUSE you use.
Also you may try switching between “Desktop” and “Desktop Icons” Activities
Thanks for the reply. I’m running OpenSuse 12.2 with KDE 4.9.5. When I switch to the Desktop activity, the Folder View has the handle that pops up when you hover, but the icons in the folder still don’t have any handles. In the Desktop Icons activity, there’s no Folder View, just icons.
I’m not at all unhappy with this behavior, I always found the handles on every icon annoying, I’m just curious if this is controlled by a configuration setting somewhere. I’m still a little lost in KDE 4.x, and I’m trying to learn how all the pieces work.

Locking the widgets will turn it off.
