should the more fonts installed the better?

To the best of my understanding, font is stated in the internet web page. the local browser looks up the closest font to that stated in web page available in the machine and display.
In that sense should the more fonts installed the better?
I see in some other forums adding more fonts make display worst? tks

Any website builder worth their salt will not try and detail non-standard fonts
If they require peculiar fonts, they usual make it up with an image

I agree with caf4926. HTML is designd with the idea that screens are different and that fonts might be different on the different clients. When a web page depends on a specific font, that is bad design.

Of course you need at least a decent (I mean not fancy) font for the different scripts you want to read. Thus when you want to be able to download and read web pages in Chinese, you need a font that has a good readable interpretation of the characters in the Unicode range that covers Chinese.

Also, haviing at least variable and fixed font versions of the Latin character range might help in reading a web site like the forums here, where computer terminal text is displayed.

Some people download the subset of Windows fonts that are freely available, precisely for
compatibility reasons. Just install and run “fetchmsttfonts”.

In Konqueror Settings>Configure Konqueror>Web browsing>Appearance>Fonts allows you to create your own CSS font definitions; these can be overridden by the website author though, as caf4926 says, sensible website authors don’t use impractical fonts.
