Should I postpone my 11.4 to 12.1 upgrade?

I have two perfectly running openSUSE 11.4 64-bit computers, one at home and one at work. Based on all the 12.1 posts I’ve been reading, I am a little hesitant to proceed with the upgrade. BTW, I have previously been burned many times by an uncontrollable desire to have the greatest and latest. One that comes to mind was my upgrade from a perfectly running Ubuntu 10.10 the 11.04, that was a bad one!

Any recommendations to upgrade to 12.1 or to stay put on 11.4?

Thank you!

What can someone have as a valid reason to change a perfectly running
system as long as it is supported?
None.

I would say stay with it, and to satisfy your curiosity installing 12.1
on a sandbox machine (if you have none as a virtual machine or a dual
boot on one of your 11.4 machines, dual boot has the benefit you also
can test the hardware compatibility and performance) and play with it
and test if your main applications work well enough to justify an upgrade.

PC: oS 11.4 (dual boot 12.1) 64 bit | Intel Core i7-2600@3.40GHz | KDE
4.6.0 | GeForce GT 420 | 16GB Ram
Eee PC 1201n: oS 11.4 64 bit | Intel Atom 330@1.60GHz | KDE 4.7.3 |
nVidia ION | 3GB Ram

You could try the liveCD and see how that works for you.

Remember that in support forums, people tend not to post when things are
working properly, so you will see more problems reported than non-
problems reported. That’s the nature of support forums.

But that said, I’ve got one machine on 12.1, another on 11.4, and a new
one on the way that’s going to get 12.1 when it gets here next week.
I’ve had a couple of mysterious lockups on the one that’s running 12.1,
but one of my key apps isn’t yet working on it.

I have a triple boot System. Windows Media Center, openSuSE 11.4 and openSuSE 12.1. Have been trying to use 12.1 as the main system and it screws up in various ways. I would NOT trust it … yet.

Just my Humble opinion.

To the others … I am not lambasting this release. I actually kinda like it and hope that the problems will get worked out. And yes I will report the problems… as soon as I can determine exactly what they are. My signature has the important machine info for anyone that cares.
