Shared folders best/easiest solution on opesuse 11 server?

Hi,

I have a school that requires me to setup shared folders
for 2 groups ; teachers and students
How do I easiest accomplish this ?

teachers have all windows machines
students have linux and windows machines (mostly linux)

Serverside openSuse 11 fully patched
with iFolder 3.x installed and in use for personal filestorage

users 18 teachers (userspecific login to iFolder)
users 9 studentmachines (no userspecific login)

Any hints to docs or suggestions would be highly appriciated

Sincerely,

DB

Samba works very well for sharing files and folders between windows and linux machines

Setting up samba on opensuse is fairly straightforward using Yast

I’m guessing teachers will want to access things that students can’t so you’ll probably need to set up groups for students and teachers on both the windows and linux machines with appropriate permissions on the relevant folders

Seems like Swerdna (forum moderator on these boards) has quite a comprehensive guide about this, includes the windows config to.

And to prevent double maintance samba is indeed probably what you you’ll want to use, as under both windows and linux it’s working fine.
