Hey guys,
I am planning to move to OpenSuse…
But there are some problems…
You know, I have a HP Compaq 615 and in Ubuntu in order for the wi-fi to work I needed to install a package named broadcom-sta-wireless, the same in linux mint…
Is there a package like this or something which will help me?
Thanks a lot!

Great Site!!
Depending on your broadcom device
lspci -nnk
(will tell us from a ub* terminal)
You either need b43 or wl drivers,
b43 (assuming you have a wired connection)
sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware
modprobe b43
wl drivers
Install Broadcom Drivers from Packman
When I run the first command, it shows me all these stuff…

So you’ll want the wl driver from Packman
If you think so…
How can I install it?
Hi, welcome here,
In Yast - Software - Software Repositories:
click Add
check “Repositories maintained by the Community”, Next
check “Packman”, Next
Import the key, when prompted to
click OK.
Now start the software manager. The system should auto-select the driver packages for install. Accept, install, reboot and you should be able to use the wireless.
I did post a guide
Install Broadcom Drivers from Packman
In your guide thre are 3 pieces of code, which should I use?
The “desktop” one, the “pae” one or the “default” one?
Follow step 1
It’s like A B C - 1 2 3
You know guys, after I rebooted, the driver dissappeared, I dont know how, it just doesnt’t show me the available wi-fi networks…
!HELP ME!
Post me the result of the following:
uname -a
rpm -qa | grep kernel
rpm -qa | grep broadcom
Ok I will post in a moment
The first one when I run it it tells me:
Linux linux-igy5.site 2.6.34-12-default #1 SMP 2010-06-29 02:39:08 +0200 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
The Second one:
kernel-default-base-2.6.34-12.3.i586
kernel-desktop-2.6.34.7-0.5.1.i586
kernel-firmware-20100617-2.2.noarch
kernel-default-2.6.34-12.3.i586
The Third one:
broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop-5.60.246.2_k2.6.34.7_0.5-7.pm.8.1.i586
broadcom-wl-5.60.246.2-7.pm.8.1.i586
Please help me!!!:’(:’(:’(>:(>
At the boot menu you should see an option to boot kernel-desktop
You are currently booting kernel-default
But your driver for wireless is for kernel desktop
Try that an report back:
Somehow you managed to install an additional kernel type, which we can remove, but just try as I ask first
I booted from the Desktop one but when I press to see the available networks it tells me that wireless is disabled.
You now need to update the kernel-desktop, it’s an older version.
As su -
zypper up kernel-desktop
You will need to reboot and make sure you boot kernel-desktop again
Ideally you need to try and remove kernel-default. I’m not sure how you installed it, but removing can be tricky and it might even try and install another kernel type in the process.
Try this, and if unsure, post the output of what it suggests when you enter it:
zypper rm kernel-default
I did it and told me that it has nothing to do and that it is in the highest version…
Then when I entered:
zypper rm kernel-default
The ouput was:
