setting the system back to standard KDE 4.6.0

Hi folks,

over here on my desktop I have KDE 4.6.4 running, updated from 4.6.0 through all intermediate steps. In the last few days I feel, that it got a bit unstable and I think, I have messed it up again, with doing some stupid things in the repository management. But of course, I don´t remember what I did…

So I am asking myself, if I could reset the system to the state where it came from: KDE 4.6.0, including all the updates from the standard openSUSE repositories.

I would do it as follows:

  1. deactivate the additional KDE repositories and X11 from OBS (I needed it for installing xbindkeys)

  2. switch packages to the standard repositories, which came with openSUSE, and also switch the packages to Packman

  3. run an update, or how it is called, the switch back to 4.6.0

would this work, or would I completly mess the system up?

I then would leave it like it is, with the only additional repo´s: Packman

would be great if someone would guide me to / on the way to go… I don´t wanna re-install the whole system…

Thanks!
Steffen

Remove the OBS kde repos
run: zypper dup (It’s also possible to use the switch on OSS, I have done it this way)
Then apply the packman switch (You may need to keep the old linphone package)

That’s it
Though I would have a look in repo view > system
scan all the packages looking for red text, it may indicate orphaned packages from the obs kde repos

seems like that it has worked out, so far.

the following packages were orphaned:

taglib

libx264-114

libswscale0

libtag1
libtagc0

libpostproc51

libdbusmenu-qt2

libavcodec52

libavcodec53

libavfilter2

libavformat53

libavutil51

ffmpeg

but they are just multimedia related… no system packages or application related packages… that´s why I do not really understand why KDE was so shaky before. But maybe it was because of some changes in the packages themselves

After the rollback, libx264-114 still is orphaned and there were also some red debug-info packages remaining from the 4.6.4 version. I just uninstalled them.

So everything looks good again. Thanks, caf!

Red alone does not signify orphaned
Go to the version tab, only if no provider is listed, will it likely be orphaned

If it’s red and there is a provider, it means it’s a roll back

ah, ok. Understood.

libx264-114 has a provider (Packman). So it should be okay then.

Did you remove those in that list you gave?
Most of them should be installed

My repo name for Packman is: packman

no, I didn´t remove them. I first typed “zypper dup” and checked if they are in it´s list to be “downgraded” or to change vendor. And as they were in this list, I left them.

And they are not red anymore in YaST.
