Setting http_proxy

Forum Members -

I am a new OpenSuse user, and I have a question about setting the proxy. Is there a way that I can set the http_proxy variable so that it is defined in my KDE 4 session? My goal is to be able to go to KDE’s network settings applet and use the ‘use preset environment variables’ option to control my proxy configuration within KDE.

Thanks,
James

The canonical way to set this up is via YaST / Network Services / Proxy.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it does not seem to set the http_proxy environment variable. Or if it does it is not reflected in my KDE session.

For this particular change to take effect, you’ll have to restart your
KDE session.

Andreas, thanks for your suggestions. I was actually able to accomplish what I wanted to do by editing /usr/bin/startkde and putting a few lines of bash in at the top.

Thanks,
