Serious video problems

Whenever i start a fullscreen game, like True Combat: Elite for example, i get my screen all corrupted, black stripes and everthing.

Today i wanted to play Soldat, installed it though wine, everything worked well.
Then when i wanted to actually play, i launched Soldat and i got this black stripes again. No way of getting rid of them.
Got the latest ATI graphics drivers. I really dont know what the problem is :S

Besides, i dont know how to minimize these black striped so i can get a screen shot

A bit more information about your desktop environment might help here. Are you using KDE4? Compiz enabled?

can you be some more informative?
what card you have wnat release you have? did you use opensuse 11.0
did you use KDE4 did you use compiz?

can you get some info

direct rendering: Yes

How do i check if compiz is enabled?? (dont even know what that is :stuck_out_tongue: )

Its a known issue with ati+compiz.
U need to disable compiz each time u watch a video file

whats compiz for and how do i desable it??
what would i loose if i keep it disabled ??

I dont think there is something ucan do then.
Its not a linux problem its an ATI problem combined with 3D

so, basically theres nothing else to do other than wait for a new ATI driver ?

The problem hasn’t really been pinned down. Can you play video ok? Do some of the linux 3D games such as sauerbraten, doom, and gl-117 play ok? I’m thinking this problem is specific to wine /soldat. You may get better support from winehq

i dont think its only with Soldat/Wine.
I play TrueCombat: Elite aswell, though it doesent get stuck at the beggining, it does show some screen flickering for about 30 seconds or so.

PD: Where do i get Sauerbraten from ?
