then, because 11.4 has lived past its end of life and is NO LONGER
receiving security fixes you need to move it to 11.4 Evergreen, which is
a project to extend the life of some selected openSUSE versions by
providing updated security patches…
it is easy, just add one repo and run YaST Online Update occasionally,
read here: http://tinyurl.com/4aflkpy
by the way, i use 11.4 Evergreen…
now to your hardware problem: i bought a little netbook with nothing no
serial or PS2 connectors and wanted to hook up an old (but perfect) IBM
keyboard and an old wheel mouse, both had a PS/2 connectors…i went to
the local PC selling superstore and they sold me kind of a Y-Cord thing
which i could plug into both the keyboard and mouse on one end and then
plug the other end into the USB slot…
it cost about 3 or 5 dollars (US)…great, but it didn’t work…lights
flashed on the keyboard, but that was all…the keyboard was totally
useless, and so was the mouse!
i did some online research and learned that the type of device i had
bought was nothing but some wires connected together with NO other
electronic guts…and, you could look at what i bought as clearly see
there was no room anywhere for anything other than wires and connectors…
what i need was a real adapter, and i ordered a Belkin® USB Dual PS/2
to USB Adapter, model number FSU119vE1 for about 12 dollars (US) and it
works perfectly…it has a bunch of electronics inside the connection
point where two wires with PS/2 receptacles goes in one side and one
wire with a USB plug goes out the other side…[the guts are powered by
the USB system]
it works perfectly! if you have the right kind of adapter and it doesn’t
work i’d guess the problem is in the laptops USB system…pick a
different USB port to plug into…
hey, no matter what do NOT forget to apply the security patches to you
11.4, you have had NONE applied since 5 Nov 2012, cite:

otherwise you need to never connect that machine to any possibly
hostile network (like the internet!) as it has several frail points well
known to hackers/criminals!
