sensors3, lm_sensors, strange...understing...

hello

i have installed 2 linux: opensuse 13.2 kde4 64bit and elementaryos 64 freya.

opensuse and elementary worked as FINE.

elementatyos installed psensors, done: sensors-detect and result: 1 cpu, 1 radeon, 1 motherboard (k10), 1 rpm fan (cpu),

opensuse 13.2 installed sensors (lm_sensors) and plasmoid kde4 worked but 1 sensor: motherboard (k10), not radeon, not cpu, not fan rpm cpu…why?

i find file of elementaryos:
/etc/sensors3.conf and /etc/sensors3.conf (opensuse) are same code, but plasmoid kde temperature works with only /etc/sysconf/lm_sensors ?

code of lm_sensors:

# Generated by sensors-detect on Sun Jun 14 16:04:11 2015
## Path: Hardware/Sensors
## Description: Defines the modules to used
## Type: string
## ServiceRestart: lm_sensors
## Default: ""
#
# This file is sourced by /etc/init.d/lm_sensors and defines the modules to
# be loaded/unloaded.
#
# The format of this file is a shell script that simply defines variables:
# HWMON_MODULES for hardware monitoring driver modules, and optionally
# BUS_MODULES for any required bus driver module (for example for I2C or SPI).

HWMON_MODULES="it87"

and code sensors3.conf

# libsensors configuration file
# -----------------------------
#
# This default configuration file only includes statements which do not
# differ from one mainboard to the next. Only label, compute and set
# statements for internal voltage and temperature sensors are included.
#
# In general, local changes should not be added to this file, but rather
# placed in custom configuration files located in /etc/sensors.d. This
# approach makes further updates much easier.
#
# Such custom configuration files for specific mainboards can be found at
# http://www.lm-sensors.org/wiki/Configurations

why plasmoid kde4 show only 1 sensor: k10 (motherboard)???
nothing cpu, radeon…???

elementaryos freya worked more sensors…why?

i did tested xsensors on opensuse worked but one sensor k10 (motherboard, nothign cpu, radeon…)???

maybe problem for lm_sensors?

opensuse i have driver close source AMD/ATI gpu, i dont know why not all sensors…

do you have suggest me?

Elemntaryos is based on ubuntu (Gnome) and openSUSE (KDE). So there are different Programms that use different Sensors?

Compare on both:

sensors

hello

i know for gnome and kde but i did test xsensors of opensuse (worked) but not all sensors…this is strange? and xsensors on elementaryos worked many sensors…

for this reason i’m not understand what is problem…
maybe that lm_sensors has 1 sensor…? HWMON_MODULES=“it87”

Did you run

# sensors-detect

on your openSUSE system? This is needed to pull in the necessary modules.

yes i did and result output /etc/sensors3.config…
also i did sensors-detect from elementaryos, and output sensors3.conf same of opensuse output…
for me is strange… or bug…

Actually the file “/etc/sensors3.conf” is part of the libsensors package. It contains real-life names and other info for the command “sensors” to use in its output, like “CPU Fan” and “VBat” instead of names like “fan1” and “in0”, etc. It is not generated when you run “sensors-detect”. Sensors-detect tries to find all the hardware sensors on your system, matches them to the proper kernel modules, and then creates the file “/etc/init.d/lm_sensors” which should load the needed modules on next reboot. For some reason, “sensors-detect” is only finding your motherboard sensor (“it87”) on your openSUSE system.

Can you post the “/etc/init.d/lm_sensors” file that is created when you run “sensors-detect” on your elementaryos system?

http://www.pastefile.com/4nsB7M
see screenshot,

after sensors-detect and output to /etc/module

# at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored.
# Parameters can be specified after the module name.

there are many sensors from elementary…instead opensuse not work all sensors its strange or bug?

Your screenshot indicates that “sensors-detect” is finding both your motherboard sensors (“it87”) and your cpu sensors (“k10temp”).

I think the problem is that the plasma widget for temperature monitoring gets its information only from lm_sensors. lm_sensors does not see GPU monitoring information or HDD information so that is why the plasma widget does not report these. “Psensor” is able to get monitoring info not only from lm_sensors but from these other sources as well. So what your are seeing is not a bug but more of a limitation in the capabilities of the plasma widget.

I found psensor packaged for openSUSE (http://software.opensuse.org/search?q=psensor&baseproject=ALL) but when I tried to run it I got an error. You might have better luck.

You could also check out gkrellm. It’s not a plasmoid but it is a widget that can reside on your desktop and it monitors just about everything.

also me ERROR output…

> psensor

(psensor:30104): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema ‘psensor’ is not installed

Rilevato trace/breakpoint

opensuse 13.2 cant fix it…?
elementaryos worked…

i’m sad for opensuse problem issue…

i installed gkrellm, is not bad but good…
but not amd gpu, motherboard

i will ask to KDE4 forum?

I managed to get psensor working.

First, download the source file “psensor-1.1.3-tar.gz” from the developer’s site http://wpitchoune.net/psensor/files/.

In yast software management, install package “libsensors4-devel”.

Extract the psensors source archive to a folder and then compile and install it ("./configure", “make” and then as root “make install”).

For some reason this process did not get me an executable “psensor” but when I then installed the psensor package for openSUSE (“psensor-1.1.3-14.1.x86_64.rpm”) it ran without the “Glib-GIO-ERROR”.

Hopefully this will work for you.

Hi
Probably it didn’t compile the schema…?

I have created a copy in my home testing repo, it’s enabled for Nvidia GPU’s as well, but did a ‘special’ build for my AMD system.

HELLO

THANK YOU FOR RPM TESTING, for now it’s worked psensor on opensuse, but strange information:

that elementaryos have many sensors detected: see link old screenshot:

instead opensuse with psensor:

Is the it87 module loaded? As root user;
