As you can see from the log file, it’s relaying to the local postfix instead of relaying to smtp.provider.nl. I don’t know about dash and nail, but you can achieve the same thing in mailx:

mailx -S smtp=smtp.provider.nl -r “$FROM” -s “$SUBJECT” “$TO” <$BodyTekst

The way I read the logfile,
You’re correctly passing the message to your local SMTP agent which is Postfix, but it’s timing out attempting to connect to your remote SMTP Smart Relay (mydomain.nl). I assume that “mydomain.nl” is the sanitized name for your actual SMTP Smarthosty… If it’s not, then that’s your likely problem.

Otherwise, I’d consider why the remote SMTP Smarthost isn’t responding. You may need to test connecting to that Server using an alternative app (even telnet port 25) to see if you can at least get a banner response… But if that SMTP Smarthost is configured to just not respond in any way in the event of failure, then troubleshooting is a bit more difficult.

Suggestion:
Try the simple mail commaind to send a test message instead of nail.

HTH,
Tony

To use mailx en the addition -S smtp=smtp.provider.nl
works

Thanks a lot
