This really doesn’t make any sense.

p2p file sharing does not take into account differences between Linux/Windows/Mac…

What you mention seems to suggest a one to one transfer/sharing

In which case ftp would be a possible option

Agree with caf4926 ftp would be a better option. Have a read here

Well Gentleman there is a problem:
the problem is like to send it down over the internet to South America and at the other end,I`m 100% will be difficult to explain them how to use ftp.

Is it easy way to use like Limewire for suse 11.1 and I can tell theme (in South America) to download Limewire so then they can login to me and download it.
Is there a way:|

Thnx again for your time

Michael

If you need to use a program like that I’d suggest Soulseek, it’s small, easy to use and install and doesn’t fill the Windows PC with spyware. Use Nicotine for the client on the Linux PC.

But I still think it’s more complicated than ftp, if you setup ftp to restrict them to just one directory all they have to do is login, select all and copy. A program like WinSCP is perfect for the client, it even allows you to resume if the transfer gets broken just like a P2P program would.

Thnx for helping me :).I will tell you how am I doing.

Till then

Michael

how about spaces on windows live? it gives 25GB of storage too. just upload and so once the other person has finished downloading, delete it from the spaces drive.
if the purpose is to just get the pics/videos from one person to another through internet…then why worry about so much hassles with an ftp/P2P?

Doesn’t require much explanation just give them a link and they can download from their browser

@geoff

It is okay to tell them to use Soulseek and we can go from there?.
So I can chat with Nicotine they can use Soulseek it is the easy way out!!

Mike

Actually I don’t agree that P2P can’t be used for a 1to1 transfer. Bittorrent for example has the nice feature that it will checksum chunks of the files and you can retransmit just those. Otherwise you have to md5sum the file, ftp it, and then hope it got across fine, if not retry the whole file. What he has to be is both a P2P seed and a tracker. If he restricts access to the tracker to his friend then it becomes a private transfer. Being a seed is easy, just point to the existing file and share it. I don’t know how complicated it is to run a tracker.

You can actually also use rsync over ssh to do something similar to this chunking and checksumming. Though the software certainly exists on Windows (at the worst rsync and ssh on cygwin), I don’t know whether easy to use rsync and ssh GUI programs are available for Windows.

From my limited experience with Limewire, I think it gives the option of supplying a server to connect to/search.
Just five them your ip address.

@viperskunk,

I`m sorry I was to occupy with my family.So (windows live)how it works?.
Could you please explaain me short and sweet.:wink:

Thnx for helping me out.

You just create a folder to share but only with specified persons - Upload it yourself to the Live Spaces server. Your friend/Family can then download the files. Login to your Hotmail
Home - Windows Live

:wink:

Thnx for you big help,that is a big good newsrotfl!

Again thnx

Michael
