Selling your products on your website?

Hi,
I am planning to sell e-books, music Cds online with the help of my own site. I have uploaded all the stuff on my site. I am worrying about payment transactions. I want to give all the payment methods to the customer which includes credit card, Visa card etc. Is there is any suggestions to securely run payment transaction on my site?

Usually those ways are described on the site of the payment ‘supplier’.

Paypal for example has the merchant page. Other services should offer something similar, fairly certain you’ll have to register yourself for each and every single one them, and some might not be available for free.

There are lots of merchant account options. If you don’t like huge
fees, go through a reputable bank. However, that might not
be feasible… so there are many middleman merchants out there (with
larger fees).

IMHO, paypal is a good option (but other will disagree with that, and
usually with some pretty good reasons).

If you REALLY want to go on the cheap, you simply need to have a way
for them to securely transmit the data to you. For ultimate security,
it’s nice if the sensitive info is destroyed quickly or never lands
on the server facing the internet (best).

Then you simply take the data and do a phone in credit card
transaction (much cheaper than an internet merchant account…
and oddly enough, it’s immediately trusted by the banks).

I have seen that some small enterprises and short term businesses (conferences) handle this by not handling it. They let a bank do it. There seems to be a standard way for a shopping page to hand off the payment link to a bank’s website, which takes the CC payment, and then redirects back to your site with an acknowledment id if the payment is accepted.

If you accept secure payments, I think the CC provider will have a list of security requirements for you to fulfill so they will fill you in on that part.

Paypal pretty much covers most of the transactions you would use.

i’m just about to put my ebook online, but I am putting it up for free, not interested in selling it.

Hello,
A good question. Only few people are conscious about the payment transactions online. I would suggest you to get certified from Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to manage your payment system. This is actually a filtering system before customer payment process online as a result security increases. You can get detail information from here SSLStar - Secure Verisign GeoTrust RapidSSL and Thawte SSL Certificates.
