Self compiled Linux (6.12.6) kernel, issues with initial ramdisk

Hi forum,

I am a proud owner of a new laptop, with Windows(R) key excluded™ :smile:

Installed openSUSE Leap 15.6, perfect :smiley:

Since this is an AMD based laptop I want to use an AMD optimised kernel, using AMD’s aocc compiler - the DIY way.

So I installed the latest (6.12.6) sources (default, from openSUSE TW), and, copied the config file
from the 6.12.6 default binary rpm, and after “make LLVM=1 xconfig” ran “make binrpm-pkg” and installed the new kernel.

BUT… :thinking:

My new and shiny system does not come up :confused:
It stalls at “Loading initial ramdisk”. Searched the “web”, tried many suggestions, without any progress.

Did any of you girls and guys have any luck with this (my) approach?

This is my system:

  1. 2 disk drives were used to create a RAID 1 setup
  2. The root partition is LUKS1 encrypted
  3. /boot/efi is not encrypted

Your kernel version from inxi output does not match your description…so there seems missconfigurations/missmatches of kernel versions.

Any reason you did it instead if using kernel from Kernel:stable:Backport project?

Thank you, but this is the binary kernel (6.13.0) which runs well.
As I wrote, my self compiled kernel (6.12.6) does NOT start as expected…

no I “grabbed” a latest stable kernel… Looking into this option :smiley:

O. k. I tried with this kernel.
Found out that the kernel minor? version does not matter…

I omitted to provide some important information:

I compiled the kernel with the “-march=znver4” option. This was the root of all evil.
Compiling with the option “-march=native” did not work either.

However, “-mtune=znver4” did work.

I filed a report to the kernel/clang working group.
