If I leave my laptop running but unattended the screen blacks out after a while and when I next touch the keyboard I have to log in again. Not sure what this function is called but how do I adjust the time before it logs me out?
Second question. When shutting down it asks for root password before I can power off. How do I turn this function off?
Sorry, first one is the suspending. You can set behaviour by going to KDE’s systemsettings tool->advanced->Power Management
The second one is because you’ve secure permissions.
You can change that behaviour keeping secure permissiong by going to YaSY-> sysconfig->Desktop->Display Manager->DISPLAYMANAGER_SHUTDOWN and set it to all.
Of course there is possibility that you have easy permissions and the above set to root.Anyway, setting it to all should do the job.

Screensaver also has an option to require login after backs.
You can turn off screensaver or just delay the time when it starts (i.e.,
launch after 30 minutes of no user intercation).
