security announcement forums..

have we not seen the security announcemen forumsadmin-bot (?) get stuck
in the off position for days at a time, before?

i ask because today CAF mentions a “libvdpau1 Latest update” today in
http://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php?t=479847

but i see no info on that in the announcement forum–though we got TWO
notices of SLE_ updates today… and i see i have one of those files and
wonder if the update for 11.4 got lost ???

can, someone programmatically kick that thing into perpetual life…or,
if it can’t be reliable, just turn it off.

It depends on the RSS feed, so if the RSS feed is not updated, we won’t
get the updates.

Did you look to see if the security feed had those updates?

no i have not…sorry, i don’t know where to look, or how to set that up…

freely admit i’m not conversant in RSS today, though i remember using it
some years back…maybe in 9.x…and, found it a too easy way to
present more stuff in an hour than i could read in a day :frowning:

so, maybe someone else could see if that stream had today’s 12.2 update
in it, and if not then report that problem to the opr to kick it
out–who would be the opr? http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Services_help
doesn’t to list rss…

…or, if the rss stream had the announcement and the bot wasn’t
listening, then who do we call? the URL above gives admin@opensuse.org
or http://forums.opensuse.org/sendmessage.php, should i write them and
ask if the failure was in the forum or the rss?

anyway, i would like to read the announcement because i’ve not see an
update for 11.4 yet, and . . .

Looks like the feed is still running, as another security announcement
came through 3 minutes ago…

Checking akregator, I see that 3 security announcements came through today, but they were for enterprise linux.

There was a security announcement yesterday for 12.2 (chromium). The announcement came through before the update was available at the repos. I have since installed it.

I ran Yast online update today (on 12.2). There were three updates. But they were labeled as recommended, not as security updates. So I guess it is okay if those do not show up on the RSS security announcement feed.

Subscribe to the announcement mail list(s) instead, low traffic, read only. There you get the real,
full announcements, plus gpg signature, not the clipped version we get here via nntp that doesn’t
even say if it is for SLES.

opensuse-security-announce+subscribe
opensuse-announce+subscribe

done, thanks for the tip

and since nntp/http opensuse.org.news.security-announcements is now
unsubscribed, i don’t care if the rss/bot gets fixed or reports both
security and recommended patches, or not…
