Kinda new to this whole Linux thing and im looking for some answers…hopefully they are out there. I apologize if this is in the wrong section. I’m trying to get Secondlife to run in suse with little to no luck. I managed to get it up and running in Ubuntu so I tried the same basic method and got no results. Im wondering if anyone has had success getting it to run in SUSE and if so…how??
the issue im having is this…forgive my noobishness.
When I dl the 2nd life file from the website, im left with a icon on the desktop. When I click on that I get a window that has the file in it…in ubuntu I just enpacked the file double clicked on the secondlife file and then hit “show contents” or whatever it is. Here when I try the same thing nothing happens. I have tried running it in terminal and all the terminal options. As I said before im really new at this so if someone could spell out the process to actually get the thing going I would be grateful.
If you are using KDE4.1 try this:
1.Go to yast type extract in search
2.look for KDE4 Extract and Compress, check the box to install it click accept. After yast is done close it.(this step if you have KDE4.1 will make sense later)
3.Open your home folder look for bin. Now in another window open Desktop drag & drop the item you got from 2ndlife into the bin folder
4.right click the 2ndlife item. In the context menu you should have Extract click that select extract here, this’ll take a little while in my case about 3min.
5.If all has gone well you should have a folder in your bin titled
SecondLife_i686-1…
6.open that folder look for an item in there just titled secondlife.
7.click on that & you should be in business.
Since I don’t use Gnome I not sure of the extraction process in Gnome, but i think the procedure from step 3 on is similar no matter which DE you’re using.
Finally if you are using KDE4 step 2 would get you that “Extract” in the context menu.
Hello, I am having a problem with second life also…
I downloaded sl from the site, unpacked it, clicked on the secondlife shell script as specified in the read me…nothing happened,…opened up a console typed ./secondlife, got this
line 99: bin/do-not-directly-run-secondlife-bin: Permission denied
*** Unclean shutdown. ***
I have searched around for answers, and have set the scripts to ‘executable’ as suggested on another forum, prior to that there were alot more ‘line 99’ style errors…
Greetings! I have been running SL successfully till 1.20.17.98669 (and this is the version i run even currrently) But I haven’t been able to run 1.21.6.99587 or the new RC 1.22.4.106127. I have Intel 945G card. SL starts fine, and works fine till i don’t move and as soon as i move (inside SL), it hangs the computer, and I simply have to reboot. Anybody know what the problem could be how it can be fixed?
