Hi All,
I have a spare 500gb hard drive installed on my main box dual booting with WIN 7.
Is there a way to use the spare drive as a wifi server?
Both the desktop and a laptop are running 12.1 and KDE 4.8.3
I’m unsure as to the best way to access music/video on the spare drive from my laptop via wifi.
Summer party time is fast approaching and music on the patio is nearly as important as beer and brats!
Thanks for any suggestions.

Assuming the Box is always on and the mention of Win7 is incidental. Have
the HD mounted at boot by adding it to fstab
Setup ssh on the Box and you are good to go
So I don’t know what OS you are running on the Laptop, but another choice is sharing the drive using Samba. Here are a couple of Blogs on using Samba you might find useful:
Samba S.W.A.T. - Samba Web Administration Tool Setup for openSUSE - Blogs - openSUSE Forums
<AND>
SWAT - Samba Web Administration Tool - Setup & Creation Script - 1.03 - Blogs - openSUSE Forums
I would also do just as caf4926 suggests in adding the external hard drive to your fstab file so that it mounts automatically at boot time. You can use the YaST / System / Partitioner to mount and even format the drive if required. Also, if you want to use NTFS, you must use Windows to create that partition type outside of openSUSE.
Thank You,
Thank you for the information. I plan on spending the weekend setting it up.
Thanks again!
