Today there was an edit to the SDB: System Upgrade that removed references to 42.1, 42.2 and 42.3 with a cryptic reason suggesting that it was for no other reason than those versions were no longer officially supported (EOL).
I posted a “Discussion” where I opined that EOL is not a valid reason for removing the references to 42.1, 42.2 and 42.3 because there are people out there who are stuck with old machines and want to know how to upgrade and should know that the SDB applies just fine to those LEAP versions.
Comment anyone?
Not going to make a change undoing someone else’ modification unless others agree with me.
If people agree the change is legit, I’ll let it go.
After all, this is a a community asset, not my own personal Wiki
I disagree. IMHO People who complain that there’s too much bloat about ancient versions are right. And people still on 42.x should have upgraded ages ago.
Yes, there are still some people using the older versions. But most of them know that they are falling behind, and have chosen that path. And they know that they can try an online upgrade, but with some uncertainty as to whether it will work.
Suspect I’m not clear.
The edit in question is not trying to encourage people to use an EOL version,
It’s quite the opposite.
The edit suggests that the SDB System Upgrade (online) procedure does not or will not work for a person who wants to upgrade and leave the unsupported version.
To me, the prospective upgrader should know that the instructions as provided should work even for those EOL versions although archived update repos are needed to fully update before upgrading to the next version.
Recommend reading the Discussion entry I submitted,
If that is unclear then it’s my fault…
