sd card on pci not recognised

Can anyone suggest why my sd card is not recognised (not mounted) when I insert it into the sd card slot…neither if it is already inserted at bootup nor if it is inserted afterwards?

I am running Opensuse 11.2 (with KDE4), and I have no reason to suspect the hardware (yet), since it was OK recently with OS 11.1.

Since upgrading to 11.2 something similar has been observered.

odd audio behaviour

  1. if kbd & mouse are plugged into the ps2 ports, the audio card is recognised and alsa is setup and audio works ok.
  2. if kbd & mouse are plugged into a usb ports, audio card is not recognised, audio setup falls back to pulseauio, and audio works if all parts of pulseaudio are installed and correctly setup.

Any comments?

…I need to clear up one little misunderstanding…

in fact, the card is visible after boot. I had failed to notice it under the feature “Devices recently plugged in:” (I had expected to see an icon on the desktop as previously under OS11.1/KDE 3.5)

However, the problem remains that, when I remove the card it disappears. When it is reinserted, it is not recognised again.

:frowning:

After deleting and reinstalling the audio and video drivers all works well until a warm reboot is done. Then the sound card is never detected.

Only a cold boot re-establishes sound functionality.

There is no problem after suspend to disk or to ram.

Is there a way to restart HW detection of the sound card after a warm reboot?

Dear keellambert,
I suspect you have introduced a red herring into this thread. My problem has to do with a secure digital (sd) memory card. It is like a USB stick only smaller and inserted into a card reader slot. It is the sort of card which is also used in digital cameras. I would appreciate it if this thread could stick to that subject. Thanks

Sorry, miss read.

If you can delete my replies.

I just put a post regarding a similar problem with a usb reader
