screensaver crash

Have a clean fresh install of 11.3 from the DVD.
Have stability problems with a couple of things.
One that is crashing for me every time I go near it is “system settings” any time I try to set anything in “system settings > desktop > screensaver”

Merely clicking on any word within this screen and “system settings” crashes and I get a bug report dialogue.
Here are the details from that. . .

Application: System Settings (systemsettings), signal: Segmentation fault

anybody have any idea on what I can do here to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

Could it be graphics or openGL things going wrong? What’s your graphics configuration? Are you running proprietary drivers?

Also: are you running KDE or Gnome?

You wouldn’t happen to have a nvidia card with the nouveau drivers would you? I had lots of crash issues until I switched to the proprietary drivers (which was a pain in the butt to do as nouveau wouldn’t stay down :p)…

actually - have solved the problem.
It kinda comes back to Sax2 being removed from 11.3
I have an intel 915G onboard video.

11.3 detected it incorrectly - and following the instructions on the readme file added nomodeset to boot.
I noticed this was causing a lot of problems due to the inefficiency of that old driver being forced.
I dragged out an old copy of my xorg.conf file which has forced the correct drivers and I now have the screensaver working.

Really hope they manage to put together a gui to configure these video problems - I would have been screwed without my old xorg.config file.
