Screen resolution must be selected at every reboot

I am using a Lenovo T500 Thinkpad with 1680x1050 display. Most of the time I do not use the built-in Lenovo display, I use an external 1920x1200 display instead.

Every time I reboot, I have to use Configure Desktop > Display to change the resolution from pre-selected 1680x1050 to 1920x1200 (Auto). See image below.

What can I do to avoid having to do this at every restart? I have noticed the problem in OpenSuSE 11.2 and 11.3, not before.

I might suggest you look at the following thread as it may be a simular problem with your xorg.conf configuration file.

1024x768 resolution not getting permanent in kde
