I have just installed OpenSUSE 11.1. (in German, with KDE). It starts well, but then every five or ten seconds the screen turns black for one or two seconds. Can anyone help me?
I have two hard discs, one with Windows XP, one (500 GB) with Opensuse 11.1. 4 GB RAM.
- Oriel7,
sounds like a video problem. Which video chipset?

Danke! Chipset (Video?) SiS761GX / 965L .
It is a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo P5060, I think with a mainboard D2030-A1. Datenblatt
Grafik: Integrated Mirage 1 Graphics Engine, 85 Hz max. Refresh Rate, 2048 x 1536 x 24 max.
Resolution with 75Hz, 32, 64 or 128 MB shared memory, upgradeable with PCI Express x16
Graphics Card, High performance 256 bit 3D Engine, DirectX 7 complaint.
Gruß! Daniel

Yuck. Honestly, you’ll save precious lifetime and preserve your sanity if you go into a shop and buy a cheap NVidia card.

Sorry but I need more help on this:
Is this a Grafikkarte? Is this easy to build in? Does any type fit? What kind should I get (AGP, PCI, PCI Express)?
Daniel
PS. Is “Video PCIE GF9400 GT 512mb DDR2” a good option?

You can have either the x16 or x1 PCI Express.
You might as well go for the X16 the price difference is not much and the
machine and SuSE will love you for it.
whether you go for Nvidia or ATI is your choice I used to be staunch Nvidia
but now have 3 ATI`s and one Nvidia due to finances and for what I need them
for they are great.
YMMV

Sure, why not?
A 9400GT is more than you’ll need on Linux if you don’t do CAD or something very video demanding. Even older chips will do if we are just talking about X server and 3D effects.
The question is, which slot is available on your mainboard. PCI-Express, AGP, PCI?
