Screen lock issue

Greetings.

So, i was running a game through steam (Ark), and teamspeak. Talking with some friends.

All of a sudden, my game freezes up for 10 seconds, and the monitor goes out. - Then it comes back on, after a second, and i am presented with the screen lock log in screen. (Or what ever you call it?)

I can STILL talk to my friends on teamspeak, so i think nothing of it. I punch in my PW, and enter… But once i enter, i have no apps running. No steam, game, nor teamspeak?

So i decided to reboot. - And after BIOS, it gives me the splashscreen. Buuut… Then it just remains there… After about 2 minutes, i decided to hard reboot…

THEN i could get my machine working properly…

Anyone got a thought on this issue? So far, it’s a singular event… And i thought i had screenlock disabled?

Am i missing something `?

Did you check the journal?

Sorry, if i ask a dumb question. Journal is… Log file ? My brain is still in “Windows mode”…

The systemd journal is where all the logs are aggregated, everything from kernel to system and user services.

You can query it using journalctl. See man 1 journalctl for details.

As a first step, you can check for what went wrong by doing:

# checking for priority 3 errors (-p3) during the last boot (-b -1), the boot previous to that would be -2, the current being 0
sudo journalctl -p3 -b -1
# check for any processes that crashed
sudo coredumpctl
