screen is flickering - bad

Hey all -

I have suse 11 64bit with kde 3.5 installed. (i have also tried kde 4 with same problem except 3d doesn’t work)
everything works great - but once I load the drivers for my Nvidia 7950 gt drivers the screen has a wicked annoying flicker to it! and it makes it hard to even look at it.

It recognizes my graphics card and monitor type in yast (after install of course) and I even checked the refresh rates at http://www.html4.com/mime/txt/linuxGoodies/MonitorsDB to verify that i have that set right.

I’m not sure whats going on - my 3d works great and everything is flawless except this flickering.

Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Make sure your window manager is kwin

the setting is in the control center
kde components
session manager

window manager =kwin

see if that is the case or if it helps

My guess is still your refresh rate, the lower the number the more the flickering.
Configure it thru your nvidia-settings If you haven’t done it. Forget sax2 or yast for now, to see if there is any difference.

@conram
He did say he check the refresh rates, but it’s always worth a second look.

Could be worth considering a manual install of the nVidia driver.

That was it! I’m sucha ****.
OKay cool. But i guess i forgot to mention my two displays are OLD!, well not that old but they do suck, so i had to set them to 60hz even though they are supposed to be at 80…
The flickering is gone!! you rock
I do have another question but i will post a new post…

Thanks for you quick response guys!
