Screen going blank after random amount of time

I have one weird problem, can’t seem to find the cause of it.
What’s going on is that after some time (it’s never the same) , screen goes blank (monitor turns off) , if I then move the mouse screen goes back and monitor turns on.
I have screensaver disabled, as well all the power options.
It was working fine, but then I’ve noticed it for the first time when I turned my monitor on (after it was off while I was sleeping), so I don’t know how long it was before that kicked in (idle time) , then the next day it didn’t happened, then sometimes it happens after 10 minutes of idle, sometimes 2 hours of idle time, it’s really bizarre.

openSUSE is 12.2 KDE, using ATI catalyst drivers, kernel 3.7.4-1

This was never happening in Windows btw, so it’s not some hardware problem or something like that.

Any advice ?

Try adding:

**DPMS-dependent=false

to the following file:

****HOME/.kde4/share/config/kscreensaverrc
**
I think it’s a hidden folder so remember to change the view option.

Done, I’ll report if that helped or not, like I said it’s random, sometimes it’s up for 24hrs and more without screen going blank, sometimes that happens after several minutes. So it’s gonna take some time before I can be sure.

Hope this fix will work

Thanks.

Seems like **DPMS-dependent=false **did the trick.
It’s been more than 30 hours since I added that line.

Various idle times were in play … 10 hours, 8 hours, 4 hours , so I guess it’s good now, hope I didn’t jinx it

Well, it was good for 2 weeks and now it started again.
I checked HOME/.kde4/share/config/kscreensaverrc and DPMS-dependent is set to false.
Checked power management , everything is off there, in screensaver settings everything is off.

So frustrating, can’t really believe how something simple turns out to be so complicated.
I just can’t tell the system to leave my monitor alone , it doesn’t care and it does whatever it likes.

Absolutely amazing, don’t turn my monitor off, that hard huh ?

Pfff …
