Screen goes blank sporadically

I have installed openSUSE and everything is fine except one issue.

The screen goes black and audio cuts off for like a second and comes right back. It happens sporadically once or twice here then some times a few times repeatedly.

Running openSUSE 11.2
Drivers from the NVIDIA Repository.(For my GTS 250)

Stripped the audio flags from the EDID for my tv to prevent trying to send audio over hdmi (I’m not using the hdmi pass through on my video card) so i can use the audio out on my sound card.

No error messages are displayed when it blanks

bump still an issue

gosh i hope you take this the way it is intended:

lets look at your problem from the potential answerers point of view
(as everyone else here has to)…when i read your first post (by the
way: -=welcome=- to the forum) on 6 May (minutes after you posted it i
wondered when this screen was blanking…

that is, was it connected to some other event: like maybe when the
microwave kicked in to heat up the stone cold coffee–which might
mean the machine’s power supply is a little weak and can’t handle the
slightly lower voltage sporadically…(i wondered if this is a new
machine or one three to five years old with a tired power supply or
caps about to start leaking, or already leaking…or maybe it was a
tiny bit of corrosion in one of the video leads…or …)

or, did it only happen in the same second that the hard drive was
being hit hard by some other program, like maybe a cron job, or
updatedb, or a torrent or any of hundreds of things—i wonder if s/he
had yet opened top and watched to see if there was a clue about what
else might be sporadically overloading the CPU, or GPU, or hard
disk or video memory or anything…(i wondered if maybe the machine
was just underpowered in terms of CPU, RAM, video RAM, drive
speed…or whatever…)

i wondered if the user had yet gone thought the logs to see if there
were clues deposited therein in the form of errors, warnings or …

i wondered if it only happened when (say) a movie was being played
from a DVD…or also when a movie was being played from a hard drive
(any hard drive or one in particular…i wondered how many hard drives
were in use)…or only if from a USB connected hard drive…or a
network connected hard drive…or streaming direct from BBC (while
streams from CNN remained without sporadically being interrupted…)
or …

i wondered if the openSUSE 11.2 had been updated since
installation…or if it had any other problems (which might mean it
was a faulty install due to corrupted iso/disk burn…i wondered if
s/he did this http://tinyurl.com/yajm2aq before the install?)

i wondered if this problem had been occurring since day one, or if it
worked okay for a day (or month) and then ‘suddenly’ started showing
these sporadic problems…i wondered if it suddenly began to happen
soon after the latest kernel was installed (i wondered if the latest
kernel had been installed)…

i wondered what “Stripped the audio flags from the EDID” meant and if
i knew half as much about this problem as the questioner did…[maybe
i should not try to learn more about this problem…not even try to
learn enough to be able to make a guess on if it might be a hardware
problem…or software [i wondered if s/he was using MythTV and if it had been correctly setup]…or an openSUSE specific problem or an any
Linux problem…or maybe just an 11.2 problem which might be fixed in
11.3 Mx]

i wondered what else the asker had done (besides stripping flags) to
try to solve this problem…which led me to wondering if the
questioner had ever read http://is.gd/2BfI3 have you?

most here want to help (or we wouldn’t be here–as no one pays us to
be here…we do it because we like to, it is fun, and it is one of
many ways to “pay back” to the community, kinda like a way of “paying
for” the software we love to use, and support) but sometimes we need
users to help us help them a little more.

again welcome…tell us more about your problem, your hardware, your
linux experience, etc…
