screen goes black

My screen recently started going black after a few minutes. Screen Saver is
unchecked for the box “Start automatically”. Under Display -> Power Control,
“Standby after:”, “Suspend after:”, and Power off after:" are all set to
“Disabled”. The “Enable display power management” box is unchecked. Where
else should I look to fix this?
Opensuse 11.2 KDE 4.3.5

Is it going black during use or after sitting with no interaction?

After a few minutes of no interaction.

First question I should have asked first is this a laptop or desktop? Are you using any kind of proprietary video drivers? I know ATI has what they call power play option that is for power settings.

did you try to delete the powerdevil config in your kde setting?
I noticed some strangeness in the kde updating process from 4.1 to 4.3

Plasma showed the same behaviour for some of us and after a reconfig problems were solved.

Another quick question: when your screen goes black does it wake back up without a reboot or log out?

Could you point me in the right direction for that forum. I’m having some strange issues with powerdevil not detecting my AC adapter being plugged in or disconnected.

for the powerdevil black screen, you can try to delete everything that is related to powerdevil in your kde config from your home folder.
.kde4/share/config/ delete everything in here that starts with powerdevil.

the detecting of AC adaptor plugged in or not seems like an ACPI problem to me. I’ve seen this behaviour before on an MSI er710 laptop. Any hints for this are way above my head. Someone else should reply to this.

Ahh. Those are good questions. It’s a desktop. I’m using Nvidia drivers from
the one-click install method. It’s a new problem, but I don’t recall making
any changes outside of the update process. Now that I’m thinking of updates,
there was an update in the list recently that I could not get to go away
unless I actually installed it. It was for an ATI video driver. I don’t have
an ATI card, so I didn’t expect it to actually do anything. I did want the
updater to stop telling me that I needed to install it though.

I have a nvidia card on my system and I aslo remember that update, however my system still seems to be operating correctly. So I’m not sure if that would be your issue or not.

May be the problem with the monitor itself., or try to delete the powerdevil config in kde setting.
