Screen Freezes on login

I would like to try Suse but when I boot from the installation disc, loading proceeds OK until I get the normal pre KDE screen with the usual symbols, then instead of going to a normal plasma screen, it just go black with a bar along the bottom the mouse central and freezes.

Can anyone help, so I can give Suse a trial run, or should I try a full install.

-=WELCOME=- new poster…

at the first green screen (where you can pick from several options) just
start typing and type in

nomodeset

which should pick a
different video driver so you can complete the boot…

see here for what to do next if that doesn’t work:

on the other hand you didn’t mention which “Suse” you are trying…i
ran into another today that was trying to load openSUSE 12.3 which is
NOT close to ready for use…be SURE to fetch from
http://software.opensuse.org/ and be sure to check to make sure the
download was good
(see here: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Download_help#Checksums)

oh, and you didn’t mention what hardware, and especially which graphics
setup you have…some of the very newest graphics are, shall i say
“troublesome”…

oh, and a little patience goes a long way…it is a pretty steep climb
at first, but worth the effort…imo

I am trying Suse 12.2.

I will try using nomodeset next time I try it.

I tried nomodeset and safe kernal, but still got the same result. However I tried Suse 11.3 and that worked OK. Could I install 11.3 and then update to 12,2.

You can try, but I think it will not work - unless it is a corrected bug in an update which you can
apply before first boot.
