I have this issue with my system that started 2-3 days ago, once the screen turns off (as specified in the Energy Saving Settings, the screen doesn’t turn on after moving the mouse. The only way it turns on is if I power off/power on the monitor. The computer itself is set to sleep after 60 minutes and the screen is set to turn off after 10 mins of no activity.
How do I find out what’s causing this and possibly fix this issue.
The “turning off of the screen” when done from the computer (desktop) is done by stopping sending data. Turning on is done by resuming sending data.
Now a screen’s formware often sets the screen to “sleeping” after a certain time (often only a few seconds) after getting no data. And it should turn on when getting data again. In your case it seems not to do this. IMO this points to a setting in the screen’s firmware configuration. So you may want to check those settings (most screens have buttons for this).
To help others to diagnose your problem, you could tell what the connection with the screen is: VGA, DVI, HDMI?
Also, I have reverted back my installation to snapshot from 17th and things are now working as expected. So, definitely one of the updates after 17th caused this issue.
I guess what the update fixed was the brightness level retaining its setting on a reboot. However it is not retaining after being put to sleep; for me it went from 70% to 4% previously. Now it goes to 21%, which is acceptable.
The odd thing is, I don’t ever remember adjusting the setting before. I have had this monitor for quite some time (possibly a couple of decades). When I have time I will investigate further. Perhaps KDE have introduced a new feature that is causing this.
