i have a screen, im not sure what specs. but it runs best at 1440x900. However, when i change it to this i only have a black rectangle in the top left(by background is just black) there is nothing on the left and bottom. The taskbar is full screen, all along the bottom. And i can maximize applications to full screen, it is just the background and desktop icons.

To me, at least, it is not clear what your problem is or what you are seeing. Maybe a screenshot would help.
Otoh you should provide all the information about your system you can, regarding this problem, graphics card, kind of screen (is that a laptop?) and driver installed would be helpful information.
i tried to take a screenshot but it didnt show. i dont know any of that stuff, sorry. But the problem seems to have fixed itself so its fine now. thanks anyway

Sounds like you have set a background image that is too small. But it’s
difficult to say without a screenshot, and alas,
