Screen Brightness

Hi

I am running Opensuse 11.0 Gnome and everything runs really well… Since it has been installed the computer boots up with the brightness level set to about midway, so each time you have to do the Fn + F7 key to increase brightness by 5 notches.

I have checked all the graphics settings etc but nothing seems to adjust it. I have a Nvidia geforce 6100 card.

You need to adjust powersave settings.

Dear caf4926

Do you know where to find the powersave settings? I can’t find anything that resembles what I’m looking for. Plus the powerd is disabled on the runlevel menu, does this matter?

I don’t use gnome in SUSE so I can’t really say. I just search ‘powersave’ in Yast Software Management and there is a gnome package of sorts there:

gnome-applets-inhibit-powersave

Install it if you don’t have it.

In kde there is an applet in the panel.

Someone with Gnome! Chime in here please.

powerd is not normally enabled, it’s related to UPS (Uninterrupted Powers Supply)

All sorted, thanks caf4926.

I installed Powersave applet as you said and the first time I opened it the brightness came back and then restarted perfectly at full brightness.

Thanks again,
Kacy

You are welcome. Enjoy openSUSE;)
