Scrambled KDE screen after login

Hello all.

So my own fault but the other day I decided to change my screen resolution in KDE to something that made it a bit easier to read and see stuff on my monitor on one of my other machines. I changed the resolution in the Display and Settings part of the KDE System Settings app. As far as I thought… The resolution I picked was supported by that monitor. Apparently not. The screen is scrambled almost like the refresh rate is too high or something. Problem is I can’t see anything in order to go back in and change the resolution back or to something else. The system boots fine and displays the login screen. But as soon as you log in and the system loads into KDE the display becomes unreadable. Is there any way to change the resolution back or for me to adjust it outside the GUI? xrander does not work which I knew was a bit of a long shot but worth a try. I don’t see a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to edit but from my understanding of Xorg it no longer really uses the config file and auto detects most stuff on startup (?). Any ideas?

Thank you.

I’m not sure where that is saved. But you could maybe try editing “.config/kwinrc” to check whether it is there.

I just tried that but nothing I could see in there regarding screen resolutions and such. Actually the file only has a few lines. But thank you for the suggestion.

The location of interest is ~/.local/share/kscreen/

From a VT, login to console as user, then do

rm -rf ~/.local/share/kscreen/

then login to the desktop again.
