In no particular order:
BSG
Firefly
Lexx
Farscape
Stargate Atlantis

I like all kinds of Sci-fi, Doctor Who would have to come first. I’ve also enjoyed both Star Trek and Star Wars in the past.

In addition I see no one has mentioned Blake’s 7 yet, low budget sci-fi at it’s best (for the most part). Then of course there is Red Dwarf for the comedy angle

Series:

  • Battlestar Galactica (reimagined)
  • Babylon 5
  • Firefly (got off to a promising start)
  • Star Trek: TNG (nice, with occasional overdose of chronitron particles, energy polarisations and whatnot :p)

Movies:

  • 2001: A Space Odyssey
  • Blade Runner
  • Alien (the first one is very good, the others ~good)

I must say that I am quite happy to see many who like Stargate and Doctor Who. Being Canadian and British shows respectively, I think they are top notch compared to the American Star Trek and Star Wars. (Star Wars doesn’t really compare, not being a series and all.)

  1. Babylon 5. If you want to know why, check out The Lurker’s guide Lots of little details that are picked up in later episodes. Plus it had Penn and Teller!

  2. Farscape. Good acting and plot. Very, very original.

  3. Battlestar Galactica. Though for me this series is quickly running out of steam.

Never really got into Dr Who. Except for a few select episodes here and there, I didn’t really care for any of the newer Star Trek shows. Liked Stargate, but I never quite got into watching it regularly.

I’ll add in mine with no order what so ever

Dr Who (and all of the sub-series, Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures, etc…)
Star Trek
Star Wars
Stargate
Red Dwarf
Back to the Future
The Fountain (I do have to admit, messed up but I liked it)

TV:
Flash Gordon
Star Trek (all of them)
The Jetsons
The Twilight Zone
The Outer Limits
The Wild Wild West
The Time Tunnel
Man From U.N.C.L.E
The Bionic Woman/Six Million Dollar Man
Lost In Space (original series)
My Favorite Martian
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea

MOVIE:
Star Wars (first three)
Journey to the Center of the Earth
Fantastic Voyage
Logan’s Run
Mystery Science Theater 3000

phew, KGroneman, some list  i was gonna put in some of my golden oldie favourites, but, didn’t think many would know or recognize them. Glad you did & a few favourites of mine

Captain Scarlett
Thunderbirds
Stingray
Joe 90

Dr. Who would have to be my all-time favorite. I was born the same year the first episode aired on BBC. On a side note, Tab Cola was introduced the same year, too. Bet some of you have to look those dates up.

Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, and Babylon 5 are great, as well. Now, you can now toss things at me, but as a kid, I thought the world of Space 1999. He, he, he…

Do I look like I care? Being rude and uncaring is a perk of the elderly.

I forgot Red Dwarf. Add that to my list.

I like everyone’s favorites… although I haven’t made up my mind about episodes 4-6 of Star Wars yet. When I watched them again lase, I cracked up every time I heard Luke speak.

My next question is this:

Would anyone’s favorites change if nostolgia wasn’t a factor?

I believe that for me, ST: TNG might move below Stargate SG-1 for that reason. (Although some episodes like “The Inner Light” in season 5 can never be topped.) The jury is still out with Doctor Who.
