Schedule for 12.1 M1-3

Stephan Kulow posted the following on the openSUSE-Factory mailing list:

I just changed the release from Milestone 0 to Milestone 1, so one of the
next builds could be released as Milestone 1. For a month we didn’t have
live cds because too much was broken, but last night we saw working DVDs
(openqa sees tons of problems in installation, but my own tests worked) and
live cds.

The GNOME one “fails to load GNOME3”, but I played (and won of course  a
round of freecell solitaire as Live-CD User, so I’d say it’s good enough for a
Milestone 1

It would be great if we saw some more factory testing now - and perhaps we
even see a KDE networkmanager for next week, but I would release M1 without,
NetworkManager-gnome fits on the KDE Live CD as temporary aid, so much I
tested already.

I would take some more packages today and tomorrow and then release what
has finished building on Monday - and move Milestone 2 a week later.

So we have:
Milestone 1: 2.6.
Milestone 2. 22.6. (23rd is a public holiday in Germany)
Milestone 3: 13.7.

Greetings, Stephan

Good news, I am eager to test the first milestone on real hardware.

PC: oS 11.3 64 bit | Intel Core2 Quad Q8300@2.50GHz | KDE 4.6.3 | GeForce
9600 GT | 4GB Ram
Eee PC 1201n: oS 11.4 64 bit | Intel Atom 330@1.60GHz | KDE 4.6.0 | nVidia
ION | 3GB Ram

From a follow up email.

2.6. is also public holiday in Germany - so really release on the 2nd?
Stephan Kulow responds:

hmm, my message and the date were conflicting. I meant to release on tuesday - 31.5

Greetings, Stephan

Gnome 3 fallsback on my R61

Trying kde now
Seems to be a network manager issue on both kde and gnome
Will report after testing more

As far as I can see, as I said, Network Manager is Jeffed ATM (in both kde and gnome)
If you use kde, disable auto login and be sure to select kde plasma desktop from the session options
I switched to ifup, though it didn’t matter as wired was fine.

Also all the repos added at install were for 11.4 except the 12.1 update, so I deleted them and added factory

Both my installs were from Live CD’s
The kde boots to a login ‘linux’ - password is linux
You also need to make sure to select the kde plasma desktop here too or you just get bumped back to the login.

Gnome did a fall back on my R61, which sucks, mainly because it’s the first time anything didn’t work on this,

Kde however, booted to full effects no problem

Had the same experiences as caf with kde live. I couldn’t get it to install from either the start up menu or from the live-kde desktop.

Note my earlier comments

The live kde did load (with the login and password as advised) to a normal kde desktop but woud not install. I’ve just updated t 12.1 m1 from the factory repo from 11.4 but rolled back the network rpm’s to the 11.4 versions.

This post is to confirm to developers the Bug that “not load GNOME”.
using nouveau and nvidia, neither GNOME our KDE OPens in Mllestone1,
without nouveau, with “nv” driver, only KDE not opens.
the error message is: “FIRMPIX invalid argument”
However, XFCE and IceWM working good, and GNOME anf KDE applications works.
Only the sessions (GNOME ou KDE) in the login screen not opens.
