Scanning software

oS 13.1, KDE, x-64.

Trying to get scanner epson perfection 3170 (usb) working. I’m sort of there but need some ideas.

In the hardware forum was a recommendation to get rpm’s from Avasys corp but this refers to epson download center. Others seem to have found x64 drivers but I can only find 32bit. And missing from anything I can find is iscan-data.

So now having installed iscan-plugin-gt-9400 & iscan-2.10 I am able to scan from the commandline using iscan. But I get the following error when it starts:

(iscan:28114): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "oxygen-gtk",

Even tho it works I’d like to resolve this error. Ideas?

Also, the scanning apps Xsane, skanlite, and AcquireImages don’t work, all giving me “no devices available”.

scan-find-scanner finds the scanner.
scanimage -L finds nothing even though iscan does work.

I seldom use the scanner and can live with the way it is working but would rather have it working right.

Thanks, Jon

Did you try setting it up in Yast?

It is not an error. It is a warning. You can ignore it.
Either the theme is not installed or it is at a different place.

Yes, w/o success. There are 2 entries. One for the epkowa driver and one for the Scanner.

The scanner entry sez “not configured” and edit scanner sez the epkowa driver is a good driver to use.

So those 2 aren’t talking to each other…scanimage -L sez “No scanners were identified.”

At least one older thread suggests not using yast.

The .rpm I installed is 32 bit and the first time I ran iscan it complained about not finding libsane.so.1 so I installed sane-backends-32.

A thread posted in 2011 mentioned:

iscan-2.28.0-2.x86_64.rpm
iscan-data-1.12.0-3.noarch.rpm
esci-interpreter-perfection-v330-0.1.1-2.x86_64.rpm

But I cannot find those files at the Epson site nor in Yast. I have the normal 4 repositories & packman enabled but only the 32 bit iscan is found.

If you refer to this page

http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sane-backends-external.html

it is mentioned

|Perfection 3170 PHOTO|USB|0x04b8/0x0116|Good|requires DFSG non-free iscan-plugin-gt-9400
|—|—|—|—|
overseas version of the GT-9400UF|

So, AFAIU you need

iscan-2.10.0-1.c2.i386.rpm
iscan-plugin-gt-9400-1.0.0-1.c2.i386.rpm

Both are available from the Epson site. (I don’t think the iscan-data package is required.)
