Scanner Problem with HP Laser Jet 1536dnf MFP

Please help to get the scanning to work with this MultiFunctional Device from HP: HP Laser Jet 1536dnf MFP

I have 11.4 64bit Opensuse running and when I installed the HP Laserjet MFP M1536dnf while printing was working I could not get scanning to work.

I get a message: which says “scanimage: open of device hpaio:/usb/HP_LaserJet_M1536dnf_MFP?serial=00CNC9C7KBBZ failed: Error during device I/O”

installing the HP software does not seem to help.

If it helps here is what demsg|grep -i usb has produced:

Will be happy to post in future with CODE tags.

  1. Which program are you using when you try to scan?

I get this message when I run xsane from the command line.

Any other graphics applications that attempts to scan also gives this message and stops by reporting an error.

Today I have tried to follow instructions from the site HP Linux Imaging and Printing Used the instructions for manual installation.

Now when configuring scanner using Yast2 it asks to download and install a plugin. Error with xsane remains the same.

instructions were followed fully. Is this only because I am using a 64 bit version of Opensuse 11.4 ?

I do not know if using a manual installation of hplib will help. hplib is available on the standard repos and generaly that is to be preferred over other methods of installation.

I mostly use Skanlite for scanning, but I guess that it will not make much difference because it probably uses the same libraries.

For the same reason I doubt if it matters that you have a 64 bit installation. At least from the repo you will get the correct 64 bit hplib.

The problem wiith your setup seems to be that there are not many people seeing this thread who also use the 1536dnf MFP (and it is very good you put that type in the title of the thread). I e.g. have no problems with my HP Deskjet F4180, but that is of no comfort to you :frowning:

also most hp users do not seam to have any problems
for instance i went for 11.3 to 11.4 ( both 64 bit) as a NEW install and 11.4 AUTO set up my “HP Photosmart c4700 Series” printer/scanner
i was expecting to have to set it up , but no the system auto did it i click on Skanlite it works

when you use the web cups interface ( http://localhost:631/printers/) what driver is used
Is there a blue/white HP icon in the toolbar ?
What happens if you press the “scan” button on the combo printer

Also HOW is it connected ? usb or wireless ?

I have hp LJM1530 scanner on my desktop. When I click on it, I get a message that says the HP LJM1530 mfp series scan was not found.

My printer works fine. I don’t know what to do to get the scanner to work.

Welcome to the forums megibbs. I suggest you start a new thread with a suitable title to catch the attention of others who may be able to help you. I note from here, that this model is not explicitly supported, though it may well be that a similar model selection may suffice. (It all comes down to the internal chipsets and model identification).
