sax2 dies...

I’m trying to set up the drivers for my ATI HD3400 series PCI-E video card after a fresh install of OpenSuSE11.0 and it turns out there’s some sort of problem with Sax2… it reports itself dying at init.pl. I’ve added the ATI repo to YaST and it shows the drivers installed correctly. Here’s the output of the command sax2 -r that was given in the DIY web page for installing the drivers…

Have you run all YaST Online Updates?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I did that. I’m going to try uninstalling and reinstalling the ATI drivers today…

OK, despite being scared of doing so, I downloaded the 9.2 version of the ATI driver installer from the ATI website and followed the instructions… it seemed to work because now I have very high resolution. Still can’t use SAX2, but I can use the aticonfig utility.

THANKS!!
PattiM

Oops - bad news. Now I can’t seem to reconfigure the monitors (either screen resolution or dual-monitors) using the ATI catalyst control center. The little graphical display in the control center “Display Manager” section shows only a single monitor identified as “1:2” (I can’t seem to separate them) and when I try to change resolutions the screen goes black and doesn’t seem to be accepted upon restarting Xwindows.

Are there any ATI folks out there who can lend me a hand with this?

THANKS!
Patti

OK, I got it working… I had to download an old version (8.12) of the ATI drivers for my cheapo HD3400 based card… THEN the ATI Catalyst Control Center worked correctly, allowing me to set up the monitors flexibly.
