sax2 crashes on each bootup

Hi to all,
For the last 2 days i am facing a strange problem.
I am using openSUSE in office, Every morning when i start PC, after selecting the opensuse loader, nothing appears.
So i restart the PC, select the failsafe one and login as root there. and configure sax2 manually there. and reboot again. then it works.
Last 2 days i face it, on 1st day i ignore it bcoz i configure it already and was working. But today again the same problem. i do the same steps again and now its in front of me as a working desktop.
I don’t know, what is the problem. How it could be solved.
Any one has any idea about this?

Thanks.

Really nothing? Nada? No splash screen, no errors, no beeps?

Uwe

no splash,no error, no screen, no beeps.
Just today mouse round curser, and hang. i wait but nothing appears.

he says:

after selecting the opensuse loader
this must mean default

then says:

So i restart the PC, select the failsafe

So, yes he gets something. Just not a clear post.

I seem to recall an issue with mmarif4u not long ago related to On-board graphics being sluggish. Maybe mmarif4u - you need revisit your solution to your video /graphics display config.

Maybe my post is not that clear.
Let me clear more.
When i start PC, definitely PC show me a screen with two options:
1- openSUSE 11.0
2- openSUSE 11.0 with failsafe mode.

if i select the 1st one, after that nothing happens.
if i select 2nd one, it goes to terminal screen, where i login as root to configure the sax2. and reboot PC, after reboot everything working fine.

then says:
So i restart the PC, select the failsafe
That mean i have to press PC power button.

Hope i am clear now…

That was caused by desktop effects. Because that time, kernel was updated for intel graphic driver. later it was fixed in updates.

What do you do to configure sax2 when you login as root.?

after login as root.typing sax2, open a window with configure sax and cancel options.
I select configure sax and it open new window, there i select the correct resolution and save it. and reboot the PC.

Just curious. Have you tried booting to runlevel 3, logging in as root, then running SaX2?

yup, have just tried. but no luck.

Have you tried running Configure X11 from the Start Menu?

Opened X11 from menu.
There all settings seems ok, i think.
The following are the details from X11.
Card: intel i845
Moniter:–> Vesa 1280x1024@60HZ
Resolution is also same as above.
Colors are 16.7 Mio 24bit

This looks OK, as far as I can see, unless I missed something

When you re-boot after failsafe correction, do you use normal boot? And then it fails next time.

What boot options are in menu.lst for normal boot?

This is the same machine that was whacked by the early Aug X update that clobbered Intel machines. Also, the RAM is 768mb. The VESA driver is a consequence of his earlier difficulty after the X update. The unequal ram modules likely have placed some restriction on both hyperthreading and available RAM.

The abundance of issues may be somewhat precipitated by the RAM available. There may also be a config issue. If the box won’t boot normally, then the safeboot strips the offending issue (perhaps a RAM hog) from the process, allowing the boot. 2 gigs of matched dual channel RAM would likely eliminate most issues. One gig of matched RAM would likely resolve some issues. I have two Pent 4s, one with 1 gig and one with 3 gigs. The 1 gig machine is not fast and the other flies by comparison - with SUSE. I have discrete video on each, which helps the 1 gig box keep up.

SUSE is not light and on-board video requires RAM. And, especially with a single core processor that multi-threads only with matched RAM.

If the mb has 4 RAM slots, you might add another 256 module in the empty slot. If only 2 slots on mb, you might consider replacing the 256 with a 512 and match things up a bit.

A discrete AGP video card is also an option that would enhance performance.

I do not mean these comments as criticism. But, something must give - less OS or a better matching of RAM I think.

Just now start my PC, same thing happens again.
Went again in safe mode to configure the sax.
One thing i notice there.
My default resolution is 1280x1024. but it was 1280x768.
Mean the configuration i saved yesterday was not saved.
I think its temporarily saved, and when PC is powered OFF, every thing lost.
I think the problem is somewhere in saving the correct configuration.
OR in each boot up it goes to the previous stored session.which was with 1280x768.

What boot options are in menu.lst for normal boot?

The boot menu is normal as it was before.
1- openSUSE 11.0
2- openSUSE 11.0 failsafe mode.

dude
I mean open the file: /boot/grub/menu.lst
