Saving messages with knode

I have used knode for nntp browsing ever since I settled on openSUSE a few
years back. I have a reasonably large collection of useful messages stored
in local folders so that I don’t lose access to them as knode expires and
drops them from the original groups. Testing out the KDE4 version of knode
I find that I am no longer able to drag/drop the messages I want to keep to
the local folders - in fact, I can see no obvious way to get them there.

Am I just missing an obvious setting or has this feature gone away? Loss of
it would be a show stopper for me.

Well … you can still forward an article by email and save it as draft instead of sent it. At least it would be in your Drafts folder. But I know this is not what you want. I took a quick look but couldn’t find how to drag/drop an article either.

(slapping forehead!) How simple - never even thought of trying that. Not as
convenient as drag/drop but workable.

This is a known bug/feature that predates KDE4. Drag & Drop of messages
hasn’t worked for a couple of years. It is also no longer available via the
drop-down menus. Automatic filing of messages to a local folder is no longer
possible. Oddly, one can still create and import local folders but I wonder
what the developers think they’re for if we can’t put anything in them once
they’ve been created?

This all has been reported at KDE bugzilla but no-one’s taken a blind bit of
notice and they’re still listed as “unconfirmed”. I wonder if support for
Knode is ending - or has indeed ended?

I’ve just discovered that some kind souls are doing partial maintenance
of KDE3. see KDE3 - openSUSE. Things are built so that KDE3 apps
can run under KDE4.

The version of knode in the repository listed there seems to work correctly
under 11.4 with KDE 4.6.0. ‘Correctly’ means drag&drop works.
