Boot to runlevel3 (clear any arguments there and just type a 3)
login as user
then go su and enter your password
now run
sax2 -r
‘NVIDIA - openSUSE’ (http://en.opensuse.org/Nvidia )

So if i understand you correctly, and i do that but dont go back into
init5 and do the sax2 -r my settings will stick?
Thanks,

I’m not saying it will work for sure, what graphics device do you have
post your
/etc/X11/xorg.conf

Ah - I think i see whats happening.
If I go into my x configuration utility manager “Configure X 11 system”
It tells me the complete wrong information (just like the xorg.conf
file does)
BUT, if I go into Nvidia configuration manager and select ‘save to
xorg.conf’ -> and i click save. It tells me it cannot overwrite it.
So, i’m guessing I need to figure out how to take the file I just saved
on my deskto - the correct xorg.conf, and copy it into the etc/x11/
folder.
Does that make sense?
I’m even wondering if that would work…
Any ideas?
Still want me to post the two xorg.conf files?
Thanks,
-Matt

Got it,
What I did was run nvidia-settings as root via alt+f2.
Then once in there it would let me save the xorg.conf file
So, now when i reboot i have all my settings for display. But display
only.
How do I save the check box for desktop effects? I have to recheck the
box on every x restart or reboot. Same with compiz as well…
What you think?
