SANE Scan drivers for Epson Expression XP 4200 series - Leap 156

 :+1: …heh

I’ve run my SANE app and it works fine. I must run - have a phone call.

Glad to have been of assistance. The upstream SANE developers can only test so much. They rely on feedback from users with respect to confirmation of driver support against various models.

You should know that there is a concerted move towards both driverless printing and scanning these days.

ā€œdriverless printing and scanning these days.ā€
I wonder how how that is to work? But interesting.
Thanks again for the quick help.

It is already well established, supported by most modern printers and scanners. IPP Everywhere and Airprint protocols for printers, supported by CUPS, and eSCL (AirScan/AirPrint) and WSD (Web Services for Devices) for scanning, supported by SANE.

Okay. That’s interesting. How does OpenSuse support IPP to a printer through USB or WiFi? I see my Epson Expression XP 4205 can use IPP and I have connected my phone to it to print.
So, can YAST pick up the IPP info or is it all driven through the command process. Is this automated somehow? I try to avoid the command process as much as possible, as I try to encourage other computer users to move to Linux - the learning curve is too great for many users.
And, my own brain is getting tired these days - I’m in my 80’s now

Most multi-function devices are network connected these days (whether wired ethernret or wifi), and IPP support generally exists out of the box. Leave YaST out of this - no explicit configuration is generally required. For Leap 15.6, you’d need to install ā€˜sane-airscan’. An updated SANE environment can be obtained from the Graphics repo for Leap 15.6.

From an openSUSE firewalld perspective, you just need to allow mdns (for discovery) purposes.
