Samsung R20 with OpenSuse 11 - Cannot get wifi working

Hi everyone.

I have a Samsung R20 with an Atheros chipset. I think I have installed MadWifi properly but not sure how to check.

When I followed some of the steps on the MadWifi how-to page I keep getting:

ath0: unknown interface: No such device

Also I am unable to configure the wireless device in Yast.

I apologise if I am making a stupid error but I really don’t know what I am doing. I am trying to ditch Vista permanently and wireless internet is one of my remaining stumbling blocks (along with 3D accelerated graphics)

Can someone please help with this problem?

Thanks

I’m no wireless expert, but since no one else replied, please confirm you installed both “madwifi” and "madwifi-kmp- < your kernel flavor > " There is guidance here:
Atheros madwifi - openSUSE

I’ve read some users had problems with the one-click madwifi linked on that page, in which case, you may wish to go to webpin and try some of the madwifi linked there:
Webpin - madwifi search

Also note the comment on the atheros/madwifi page I linked, in the openSUSE 11.0 may be a conflict with built in module ath5k, which seems is not functional yet, but prevents using madwifi’s one. Resolution is to add this module to the blacklist. To do this add the line blacklist ath5k to the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and reboot.

Thank you ‘oldCPU’ for your reply. I have just finished a block of night shifts so now have time to try your suggestions. Will post how I get on.

I appreciate your help.
