I have a color laser printer Samsung CLX 3185.
The printer is not in the list when installing with yast, but Samsung provides an installer with a cups driver.
This worked with 11.4 and 12.1. But not with 12.2 anymore.
I can see the printer queue in kde applications, start print jobs with lp or in kde without error message, see an empty queue with lpq but nothing ever prints.
Where could I look for error messages of the cups system?
What has changed in the printing system from 12.1 to 12.2 that could break the samsung cups installer program?
Following the debugging page I switched the protocol from ipp to jetdirect with yast.
Printing a job does no longer create an error like “[Job 12] Unable to add document to print job” as my previous attempts had done: looks good
But to verify there is a page printed I have to get home first…
Thanks for the tips - printing worked so well over the past years, I had no idea where to start looking.
what are the pros and cons of ipp vs. jetdirect (features, quality, speed, cpu load, …)
in the links above there is mentioned ipp v1.4 and 1.5. Could be that opensuse dropped 1.4 which might be required by my printer? If yes, why would they do that?
