Samba printer driver issue

I am having trouble uploading printer drivers for Windows clients to the samba server after migrating to a new server. I guess I corrupted ntprinters.tdb or ntdrivers.tdb somewhere along the way. Can I safely remove those files and create new ones by just uploading drivers afterwards from a Windows client?

Uploading drivers from a Windows machine is actually the easiest way to get
the drivers in [print$]. There are a number of methods that work. I prefer
using the Windows Printer Wizard method.

See the section: “Adding Windows Printer Drivers to the Server” of this HowTo;
http://www.pcc-services.com/sles/samba2.html. It’s written for SLES but this
method works for any Samba/nix system. This link may also be helpful to you,
as it gives other options:

Addenda:
AFAIK Samba will create the missing tdb files. But I would just rename them
rather than deleting them. That way if things go wrong you can at least
restore the originals. I’ve never actually tried deleting them and letting
SAMBA regenerate the tdbs.

I just did and it worked out nicely for me. :slight_smile:

Glad you posted back. I’d been told they regenerated but have been lucky
enough to have never needed to test that.
