So I installed the kworld version of the SAA7131 tv tuner. It works great in Win7. In suse, it only plays whats on the webcam. Cant find any controls to scan/set channels. Am I just missing something here?
Your webcam is grabbing /dev/video0 … your tvtuner will (most likely; unless you have other video input devices in your system) be using /dev/video1 … by default tvtime looks on /dev/video0 (hence why your getting the webcam)… just change its launch to use the other i.e. “tvtime -d /dev/video1” … after that, right click in the tvtime window and select input config etc etc
Got it on the right video now. Now it says that the card doesnt have a tuner. Its auto detected correctly. Was going to set it to a kworld pc-150u but that doesn’t exist in the list. Anyone know which card listed is equivalent?
The card is simply detected/enumerated by lspci. It still has to have driver support in order for it to work. If it is indeed a pc-150u that you have, then the support for it is likely not in the driver native to openSUSE (particularly if you’re using a stock kernel). If you’ve updated to a more current kernel, then it might be there. If not, just install the drivers from media build (off of LinuxTV).
Note that that device is an ATSC hybrid … not much analog TV left in regions that use ATSC. Some cable providers might still have some analog basic cable, but I’d think you’d be hard pressed to find an OTA NTSC signal … what I’m getting at is that tvtime is an analog viewing app … It would be my guess that that is not what you’re actually after … i.e. look towards a digitalTV viewing app instead.
Good point on the analog tv. Whats left here I don’t want to watch. Will check out digital viewers
