S2RAM only stops network, nothing else

Whenever I want to suspend to RAM, only the network stops and nothing else happens. I think the same thing happens when I s2disk, but I don’t use that.

I have a vaio vgn-sz430n with openSUSE 11 KDE4

Suspend has not worked in any other Linux distros I’ve tried (well, only ubuntu, kubuntu, xubuntu, and openSUSE) and I really need help with this. I need suspend2RAM to work!!!

Please help

I could not find a more appropriate category so if Hardware is the wrong one then mods please move this thread to a better category.

Thank you.

nobody helps? awwwww

this is a known issue? have you tried switching the device to switch on at hot plug?

  • redrazor39,

see if these links help:
http://en.opensuse.org/S2ram
http://en.opensuse.org/Pm-utils

Uwe

I’m not sure what you mean by that

Thanks for the links. I’ll try that once I install OS11 (if I do, considering if I get my Fn keys working. Then it’ll be for sure)

sorry misread the question, thought you said after suspend to ram (i.e. turning it back on) network is off but everything else is normal, and i meant your network card. sorry for misreading…

Are there any errors in your /var/log/pm-suspend.log file?

This is suspend.log. I just now tried to suspend and then I copied/pasted the log file. Check it out.

From the log it looks like you are not using the “-f” (force) option to put the computer to sleep as it is not in the whitelist. Same is true for my laptop. And this is how I configure it to suspend.

Adding “-f” option to 2sram:

I put a config file (a text file) into /etc/pm/config.d/ with,

S2RAM_OPTS="-f"

and named it modules. For detail read Pm-utils and Suspend to RAM.

I have a nVidia video card so also followed NVidia Suspend HOWTO.

It worked for me. Why not give it a try.

I have an Nvidia card, too, so I’ll read those.

I’ll post to tell you how that stuff works.

ok now I can’t sudo kwrite because it can’t connect to X server.

This is so annoying. openSUSE can’t even connect to my network well (it used to be able to perfectly, but then I reinstalled and now it can’t).

Idk, but I’m starting to get sick of openSUSE. I might jump ship for fedora and check that out.

Well, I’ll check out some other distros and if they don’t do any better, I’ll stick with openSUSE.

redrazor39, openSUSE 11.0 is working great for me. I just had to configure few things.

You can try ‘su’ and use ‘kate’. Thats what I prefer if using KDE. In KDE there is a superuser file manager. You can find it from, System > File manager. I like it as everything is graphic based.

I have also added a line in /etc/pm/config.d/modules, to restart network connection automatically after suspend mode.

SUSPEND_MODULES="iwl4965"

I have Intel 495AGN wireless card so added its driver “iwl4965”. You have to replace it with your wireless driver.

Let us know how things are going.

Thanks for the help. I’m having another problem and made another thread, but I can’t seem to find any solutions. The Fn keys on my laptop don’t work. I have an AT Set 2 Translated Keyboard, according to YaST, but it is not supported by keytouch or SaX2.
