I don’t know how I did it. When I click on the “-” option in the top right corner the application shuts down instead of sleeping and showing in the panel.
Help will be appreciated.
What Desktop? Lots of desktops have panels, and we have no clue which one you’re using.

Are you referring to the “_” that is pointed to by the arrow, shown in the upper right of that window’s border??
Traditionally, that is the Minimize button and it doesn’t put the app to “Sleep”. It minimizes the window, and still running. If that’s not it, you need to provide further clarification, like a screenshot
Yes that’s the one.
Fortunately I had a recent backup and I could copy the XFCE config file. But I would still like to know where the setting for minimizing can be found.
I found this.
Right-click the panel and Select Panel > Panel Properties. Go to the Items tab and click on the Add button. Select Window Buttons and click Add. Then position it where you want it to be.
