RTW88 driver for OpenSUSE 15.1

Installed driver for wireless card RTL8723DE. Signal is very weak. RTW88 is a better option.

Found two links.

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rtlwifi_new-rtw88-dkms/

https://github.com/rtlwifi-linux/rtw88_8723de

Anyone willing to instruct installation? Really liking Leap. Need to get wireless going.

The driver is not called RTW88, it’s rtlwifi_new

Install ‘opi’ and do

opi rtlwifi_new

Install the one from Dave Plater’s home repo by picking 1. then 2 and following instructions. That’s using the same git repo.

Not seeing my first reply. I am trying to add rtw88/rtwpci.ko to /lib/…realtek for my wireless card.

Tried following your lines and got: no provider of ‘opi’ found

This is what I’m trying to configure into Leap. This is the wireless driver setup that works very well on this computer using Ubuntu. Running into difficulties overwriting similar files.

/lib/modules/generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/realtek/rtw88/rtwpci.ko

You may try

https://software.opensuse.org//download.html?project=home%3ASauerland%3Ahardware&package=rtw88

You understand the difference between in-tree and out-of-tree drivers, do not you?

Would not install

No. I am just trying to load the right script for my wireless to work so I can transition to opensuse.

Tried to install manually. First two lines fine. Third line:

zypper install rtw88

Ignore previous replies. Got it to work.

Installed opi.
Ran opi rtlwifi_new
Went to software manager and installed three new packages.
Still nothing for wireless.
